Carly Mul
Freesyle Color Collage
Freestyle color collage is a way to make a collage quilt (raw edge appliqué) without any pattern or design. Your fabrics will determine the flow of the colors and the finished result. It is a method where students learn to look and “listen” to their colors and are open minded for an abstract end result. There is a technique that you can learn to look at fabrics and what they can do for you in this creative process.

Riffing on Tradition
In this workshop, we combine the basic design elements of art with the traditional quilt block to create interesting, new, and dynamic improv quilt units. The workshop begins with a presentation of design elements—line, shape, pattern, composition, motion, and color. We will look at a variety of quilts from all traditions of quilt making to see how individual makers use design elements to create original quilt compositions. From there, students will begin to stitch their own quilt blocks based on design elements. We will stretch, distort, bend, multiply, color, and explore our rich tradition of quilt making. The final result will be a unique quilt composition.

New and Improved The Stripe Revolution!
This fun, exciting class will blow your mind! In this newly expanded version of her masterclass, Priscilla presents various techniques and ways to use stripes in quilts effectively. She demonstrates a wide array of simple and surprising ways, along with many new samples, to create an infinite variety of easy geometric shapes with stripes. Shen then encourages students to recreate all the samples, and through this experimentation, they will decide which design to focus on to make a quilt. The many samples presented, plus the kit of assorted hand-woven Guatemalan textiles (provided in class), with its incredible array of colors and patterns, offer endless creative possibilities.
