Carolina Oneto
Improvisational Garden
In this 5-day retreat, we will explore color in motion — creating our own fabrics that transition through hue, value, and saturation across the full chromatic sphere. These color transitions will form the foundation for expressive, abstract flowers. Once our blooms are complete, we’ll design and piece improvisational backgrounds that bring rhythm, depth, and harmony to each composition. Carolina will guide you through color exploration, fabric creation, and composition development, helping you craft a vibrant, personal quilt where color and form flow together naturally.

Get in Shape
One of the most important design elements is SHAPE. In this workshop, we GET IN SHAPE by identifying and using shapes from our everyday lives to create dynamic quilt compositions. We will explore the following improv techniques: finding inspirational shapes in our daily lives, translating those shapes into piece work that we can use as subject matter for our quilts, and arranging those shapes into dynamic pieced compositions that feature excellent figure-ground relationships!

Sandra Mollon
Art Quilts from Photographs
Learn to adapt a photograph into a realistic art quilt. Workshop participants select an image to work from, get it enlarged, and trace a pattern from which to work. Another option is to use any pattern by Sandra, which may be appropriate for beginning students who do not have an image they want to use. Cutting your pattern, choosing fabrics and fusing them into place, the use of media, and quilting techniques are all covered during the workshop.

Veruschka Zarate
Nordic Whimsy
Nordic Whimsy is a technique-forward quilting workshop that explores how Foundation Paper Piecing and turned-edge appliqué can work together within a single, cohesive design. Drawing inspiration from Scandinavian folk art and modern geometry, this class teaches students how to strategically assign structure to FPP elements while using appliqué to introduce movement, softness, and decorative detail. Students will learn how to plan and construct a mixed-technique composition, focusing on precision piecing, seam direction, alignment, and shape continuity within FPP units, alongside appliqué preparation using freezer paper, starch, and glue-basting for clean, professional edges. Emphasis is placed on construction sequencing, layering order, and decision-making, helping students understand not just how to execute each technique, but when and why to use them together. This workshop centers on transferable skills and problem-solving strategies that empower students to confidently combine FPP and appliqué in future quilts and original designs. Students leave with a deeper technical understanding and a versatile framework for approaching mixed-technique quilting with intention and creativity.
