This is a funky, fun collage project of birds and flowers connected by the thread of stems. In this class you will learn: techniques for quick and easy prep work; using a lightbox effectively; needleturn appliqué, prepared edge appliqué using washaway paper; straight-line appliqué; template appliqué; and easy-peasy stems and circles.

Multi Media Fiber
Explore the use of various non-woven materials in fiber art. The class will include ways to produce images with them and methods to incorporate them to extend the range of expression achieved with traditional fabrics. We will explore the use of an electric cutting machine, learn how to draw a pattern from scratch and adjust the machine settings to achieve exciting results.

Trade Winds Feathered Star
Join Kathy for a journey along the Trade Winds, a dynamic quilt made with useful techniques and decorative Organic Applique. The medallion is a Feathered Star block – a rite of passage block that is satisfying to make with the template and a few tips. Students will work with a wedge ruler and circle techniques to make the corners before moving to half stars and quarter squares.

Wildflower Tales
Take a Wildflower walk with Susan through the woods! Stitch flowers to make a creative fabric journal with little facts and quotes about each of the flowers. The stitches will be done using Pearl Cotton Threads and embellished with ribbons and unique hand dyed fabrics, cheesecloth, velveteen, linen, velvet and more. Each day will focus on creating a different flower.

Working from photos of architectural elements, David will guide you through the steps to design a minimal, modern fabric quilt. Learn the quilt-as-you-go method, sewing the top pieces, batting and backing simultaneously. Add texture and complexity with David’s unique approach to walking foot machine quilting. Connect multiple units with a gusset join technique.

Capture your Life with Collage Quilting
Join Jane for a hands-on fabric collage workshop where students will unleash their creativity in making one-of-a-kind fabric collage quilts. Ideas may include animals, birds, flowers, fish, lizards, still life, buildings and more. In the workshop students will develop their artistic skills, learning about using contrast and value in collage, building unusual backgrounds and free motion stitching.

Summer Bloom/Winter Wreath
Make this dynamic mandala-style project which can be finished either into a small quilt or a tree skirt. Learn how to use the Robin Ruth Design Mariner’s Compass rulers for strip pieced mariner’s compass blocks, and then combine them with other elements that are common in her patterns including pieced Dresden’s and faced appliqué
petals.

Fused Art Quilts from Photographs
Students select a photograph they wish to work from, get it enlarged and trace a pattern from which to work. Another option is to use any pattern by Sandra, which may be appropriate for beginning students who do not have an image they want to use. Students will select appropriate fabrics to use, which are then fused into place, enhanced with media, and quilted to create an art quilt.

Another Story Quilt
This quilt is a great way to explore many different techniques including embroidery, broderie perse, EPP, and Boro stitching. Make this quilt your own by adding little memory pieces from your own collections (doilies etc.) Wendy will take you through using different techniques to make little patched blocks and explore many simple embroidery stitches. Make your quilt large or small.

Drawing with Stitches
This joyful class explores techniques using acrylic paint, Derwent Inktense pencils, ink, paint markers, and other media to create a stash of separate design elements. Then we’ll add freemotion stitching, sewn in a loose, whimsical way to provide wonderful, linear detail to the painted fabric. The components are trimmed, arranged, and stitched to background fabric.
